Former U of M Vice President Named President of University of Vermont
People

A former University of Minnesota Vice President has been named president of University of Vermont.

E. Thomas Sullivan served as the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at the U of M from 2004 until this January. He recently accepted a position as the University of Vermont’s president.

U of M President Eric Kaler said in a statement that he offers his warmest congratulations to Sullivan.

“He was an exceptional leader at the University of Minnesota and helped me immensely as I transitioned into my role as president,” Kaler said.

Sullivan says his top priority at UVM will be to ensure a college education remains affordable for students. He made the comments Wednesday after he was introduced as UVM's 26th president.

The 63-year-old Sullivan says finances are perhaps his greatest challenge, but people have to know a good college education costs money.

Sullivan is set to receive $447,000 in pay and deferred compensation during his first three years leading the university in Burlington.

He succeeds Dan Fogel, who took office in 2002 and resigned Aug. 1. John Bramley, former UVM provost and professor, has been serving as interim president.

Sullivan will take office on July 15.
